Our team uses the light emitted by the excimer laser in a highly controlled manner to treat specific skin issues, including psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, vitiligo and palmer plantar (hand and foot) lesions.

The excimer laser is a form of UVB phototherapy that emits a single wavelength of UVB light while eliminating other harmful UV rays.

Vitiligo: Studies have shown that this type of laser is the most successful in treating vitiligo in the face, neck and upper chest. Repigmentation of affected areas will generally begin within 10 treatments and successful repigmentation can often be obtained in 30 treatments or less. Most patients receive 2-3 treatments per week.

Each patient will respond to UVB light differently, so the total number of treatments needed to treat the skin will vary. Not all patients will respond to UVB phototherapy

Psoriasis: Clinical studies have also shown that excimer laser treatment may significantly improve psoriasis within 6-10 treatments. This therapy may take 10-20 treatments to get the more severe forms of psoriasis under control.

Benefits of Excimer Laser Phototherapy

  • Improvement of tissue pigmentation
  • Remission – In many cases, phototherapy has resulted in repigmentation of the affected tissue. The duration of this remission varies with each patient. Maintenance therapy may be required.
  • Only the affected tissue is treated, leaving healthy skin unexposed to UV light.
